Afriski Mountain Resort and Cycling South Africa are proud to announce a partnership that will see Afriski and Kapoko Bike Park hosting the 1st round of the South African National Downhill Cup Series over the weekend of the 30 – 31st January 2021 (NEW DATES ARE STILL TBC).
Afriski Mountain Resort is no stranger to large scale national events as they’ve hosted the African Continental Championships as well as rounds of the SA Cross Country and Downhill Cup Series in previous years.
Nigel Hicks, Downhill Technical Delegate for CSA had this to say: “It is fantastic to have Afriski Mountain Resort in the mix for 2021. I would like to extend a huge vote of appreciation to Peter and his team for coming on board and offering to host a round of the National Cup Series. Afriski and Kapoko Bike Park are renowned for their amazing trails with the African version of “antigrip”, and with Lift-access, and 5 Downhill Tracks to choose from are a worthy host for the SA Cup Series Event.”
The weekend will be developed around the National Cup Series Event, the finals of which will be held on Sunday, 31 January. Saturday 30 January will see the inclusion of a fun enduro event in the morning to give riders and participants an opportunity to sample some of the other incredible alpine trails on offer at Afriski. Saturday will also see a full day of official practice for the downhill, with riders having to hone their skills on the demanding tracks.
Peter of Afriski had this to say about the event: “We have developed an extensive trail network all accessible using the T-Bar uplift and we are very excited to be able to host another SA Cup series event.”
