15km: This follows the single track loop and then there is a little
extra climbing until you get to a track contouring below the majestic
Bush Hill. Look up at the cliffs above you - you may see the
endangered Cape Parrots in flight (South Africa's bird of the year in
2023) and hear fish eagles calling. The route continues between
timber plantation and natural forests, offering a spectacular view of
the Underbush and Creighton valleys. From Bush Hill if its clear day,
you may be able to spot Rhino Peak in the distance. The route leaves
the forest as you enter grassland and trace down a path linking an
old homestead with Avocavale Dam on your right. You'll cross the
Nkonzo river (meaning peace) and join a short farm road as you
pass happy dairy cows and the home of Bush Hill Cheese. A short
river crossing takes you back into the plantations, and onto the third
and final water point. From here its mostly downhill through some
fun single track and onto the finish.
5km - set alongside the stunning Myddelton Dam, the route leaves
the venue on a farm track. It enters the timber plantations onto
purpose-built single track which weaves through the forest. There
are beautiful views of the Myddelton and Mjila Valleys. The route is
not technical but may have the odd root on the path, and is suitable
for families. It is not pram friendly. Walkers are welcome.
