THE 5-STAR TRAIL

Ultra Trail Raidlight Beachcomber (UTRB) is back, with its unique mix of challenging and enticing races for all categories of trailers, paired with a 5-star service and organisation. The fourth edition is scheduled for 08 and 09 July 2017 and will again take participants along spectacular tracks for a unique experience of Mauritius in the wild.

The competition gets a major revamp in 2017 with a new route for the flagship 120kms Trail des 7 Couleurs, as well as a totally new 25kms race in the southern part of the island – one that will delight short-to-medium distance runners. The courses for the now well-established 47kms and 10kms races will remain unchanged.

Similarly unchanged is the 5-star label of UTRB, which makes it even more unique and attractive to local and international runners and accompanying guests alike. The participants’ welcome and support, the track marking, supplies and race assistance, all adhere to the highest standards for service that contribute to Beachcomber hotels’ reputation. Don’t be mistaken to think that you are dreaming wide-awake on being served by a chef on the buffet-like supply stations…

All the trails of UTRB are an invitation to discover the most breathtaking parts of Mauritius, across fields and forests and along mountainous paths, atop cliffs or on pristine beaches. Expert technicians have devised all tracks. An efficient and experienced team – the one that has made of the first three editions of UTRB a success – will similarly perform race management, monitoring and assistance.

TRAIL DES 7 COULEURS (120KM / 4 500M D+)
NEW CHALLENGES FOR ULTRA RUNNERS

Date : Saturday, July 8, 2017
Start : Grand Bassin
Finish : Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa (Southeast coast)
Distance : 120km
Start time : 02:00
Time limit : 35 hours

The Trail des 7 couleurs (Seven-coloured Trail) is the only fell running race in Mauritius to be in the “ultra” category with a distance of over 100kms.
Following several changes in the course, this fourth edition brings new character to the race and presents new challenges to participants over the 120kms and 4,500m of positive elevation – whilst maintaining the unique intensity of the experience that runners will go through.
Contenders will start at the foot of giant statues near the lake of Grand Bassin in the lush and hilly region of the island’s central area. The tracks will first lead them through forests over flat land, downhills and uphills in Pétrin, Mare aux Joncs, Camphriers, Fil and Will Fil in the Gorges de la Rivière Noire – all such named tracks and the whole area being famous grounds for trail running in Mauritius. The next leg of the course goes through completely different grounds, more savannah-like in the coastal area and in hunting estates (off hunting season, of course) in the western part of the island.
The next segment is even more testing, leading the runners back to the hills of the central and southwestern areas, with long climbs and downhills in Chamarel, the Gorges, Parakeet trail and Piton de le Petite Rivière Noire, the highest mountain in Mauritius.
The finish line will then still be tens of kilometres away. Winding tracks and long stretches of earthy or rocky paths on the slopes of Piton Savane mountain, in sugar cane fields and along the cliffs on the southern coast near Andréa’s Lodges and Le Souffleur, lead to the finish line and the lively UTRB village on the beach of Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa.

TRAIL DES 7 COULEURS - 120KM RELAY

Time limit : 35 hours

For the 3rd edition, the UTRB® 120 (Trail des 7 Couleurs®) will be also run in a relay race format. Runners have the opportunity to register as a team of 3.

It will therefore be possible to register as a team on the 120 kms race as “relay UTRB”.
The runners  are free to form their team of 3 at their convenience, with an appointed captain who will liaise with the organisation.

TRAIL DE LA PERRUCHE (47KM / 800M)

SOUTH-EAST HILLS FOR A SPECTACULAR TEST

Finish :
Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa (Southeast coast)
Distance :
47km
Start time :
07:30
Time limit :
12 hours

The Trail de la Perruche has a breathtaking 47km course, connecting the mountainous region of the island's central and south-east area to the sugar cane fields, cliffs and beaches of the wild South. Runners will start at the same place as those participating to the more challenging Trail des 7 Couleurs, near the sacred Hindu lake of Grand Bassin. They will be welcome in the unique atmosphere of the UTRB village on the pristine beach of the Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa after running the final kilometres along the cliffs of Le Souffleur.

 TRAIL DU NAUTILE (25KM / 300 M D+)
 ACROSS THE WILDEST SOUTH

Start : Andrea's Lodges
Finish :
Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa (Southeast coast)
Distance :
25 km
Start time :
09:00

The Trail du Nautile (Nautilus Trail) takes its name from the new icon of the Beachcomber brand: the famous nautilus seashell. This all-new race in the UTRB offering will start at Andrea’s Lodges, atop cliffs that mark the wild southern coast of Mauritius. It then takes runners across sugar cane fields, with the occasional line of coconut trees bordering them, through slight uphills and downhills - and subsequently along the coastline to the finish line on the sandy beach at Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa.

TRAIL DU SOUFFLEUR (10KM)

Date : Sunday, July 09, 2017
Start : Le Souffleur (Southeast coast)
Finish : Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa (Southeast coast)
Distance : 10km
Start time : 09:00

With its 10 km track along the south-east coast, the Trail du Souffleur is attracting an increasing number of participants for competition or for pure enjoyment. Its path is relatively flat but it still offers many opportunities for discovery, amazement - and for some challenge to the competitor. From the start, the tracks first hug the lines of spectacular cliffs overlooking the deep blue ocean. They then lead the runners to more sheltered grounds under filao trees, before competitors and walkers alike reach the spotless beach leading to the finish line at Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa.
