EVENT INFORMATION:

The first edition of the Heritage Southern Peaks trails took place on the 29th of October 2016, this year the event is taking a new dimension with the collaboration of Moka Rangers Sports Club and Mr. Eric Lacroix as technical consultant and Heritage Resorts Mauritius and Rogers as Platinum Sponsor and Villa Valriche as Gold Sponsor and also with the support of the MTPA and Air Mauritius. 4 type of races will be proposed to the Runners a 42 km a 21km a 10km and a Fun Run for the children and family. This year we will have the privilege to have stars runners like Cedric Fleureton (French Champion of Trail running in 2014, 2015 and 2016), Thabang Madiba (African Sky running champion in 2015 and run for Team Salomon SA), Mikael Bouche and Claire Nedellec from Reunion Island and our Mauritius star runner Laurence Goilot and the cherry on the cake Ludovic Collet (the Voice of the UTMB and GRAND RAID) will animate the race. 

RACE DISCRIPTION:

Southern Peaks Trail (42 km et 2000 m de dénivelé positif)

Moka Rangers Sports Club invite the lovers of trail running on the 2nd of July 2017 in the heights of “Baie du Cap, Chamarel and bel-Ombre” to discover some magnificent views on the west and south west of the island where the runners will only discover during this race as the race goes through 7 private land and the owners will gives access only during this race.

The departure of the 42km will be done at the “carrière de sable de Baie-du-Cap” they will then take a steep ascent 4x4 road which will bring them to the highest point of the estate at 460M Altitude with a magnificent view on the Maconde and its blue lagoon. The runner will then run downhill for about 2km to join the old baie du cap shop before entering the private land of GALEA D’HOTMAN, a private land, with some very steep ascent 4x4 roads and single tracks after reaching the highest point of this estate 600m D+, the runners will then enter another private land MONT SUR MONT D’HOTAN, A very pleasant place with some up and down hills, they will then go through the private land of Mr. RAMJAN, called as a very big beautiful Garden where the runners will run among huge plains and endemic forest with ebony trees of more than 400 years old. The runners will then reach the “Campement de chasse of Mr. Ranjam” for some refreshment before running down in the “Rivere des Rouleaux” and then climbing a steep slope in a single track for entering the private land of LE NOIR Family. The runners will have the opportunity to run 6km in this wonderful area before entering the Private Land of Ian NOEL and BON COURAGE they will then run down to Frederica estate before entering the last private land of BEL-OMBRE through “sentier Goyave”. Sentier Goyave will be the last tough part of the race with uphills and downhills which will bring the runners to an altitude of 400M D+ with beautiful views on the south, the lagoon and the golf estate, after that the runners will enter the estate of Villa Valriche pass in front of the Chateau de Bel-Ombre Castle to finish at the C-Beach Club on the beach where they will be able to appreciate some hotel food, the beach, the sea and the swimming pool.

Sur les traces des cerfs (21 km – 750 m D+)

The departure will be done on the beautiful site of the Chateau de bel-Ombre, the runners will do 1.5km on a tar road through the villa Valriche before entering Chasse de Sentier Gogave they will then take the direction of the “Chasse de Dalsing” another hunter area which from part of Bel-Ombre estate. The runners will then run 2km in the sugar cane field before entering  Dalsing. There the runners will have the privilege to run in a beautiful private land with a lot of uphills and downhills with a mix of 4x4 tracks and single tracks where the deer and the pigs may cross over to try to hide themselves in the bushes. These same tracks will then bring the runners to the “Cascade de Frederica”. Beautiful area with where the river flows through a bamboo forest covered by huge trees. I suggest the runners to stop there and appreciate this moment. The runners will then exit Dalsing to enter sentier goyave to take the same track as the 42km with the same difficulties and same exiting views on the south and bel-Ombre estate. They will then go through the villa Valriche passing in front of the Bel-Ombre castle and finish at the C-Beach Club.

Sentier Goyaves (10 km – 400 m D+)

The runners will start in front the Chateau de Bel-Ombre, they will run 1.5km on the tar road between the villas Valriche before entering the private land of Sentier Goyave. A Unique Theater of 10km with a nice steep slope which will bring the runners to a highest point of 450M Altitude with a breath taking view on the blue lagoon and the estate of Bel-Ombre. The runners will have the chance to cross the road of deer and pigs. The 10km will be a mix of 4x4 track road and single track. The villa Valriche will be their last kms before finishing their race at the C-Beach Club.

Around du golf (5km)

This race has been done specially for the kids and the parents who want to follow their kids. The departure will be in front of the Castle of Bel-Ombre the kids will run around the golf course to finish their race at the C-beach club where they will appreciate the hotel, the sea, the beach and the swimming pool.
