Underberg Gran Fondo

Join us for the inaugural Underberg Gran Fondo on Sunday 31 July 2022. We have been riding Gravel around Underberg for years and are always blow away by the beauty of the area. So, its time to share this with more people and this why we created the Underberg Gran Fondo.

There are 2 distances; 140km and 90km and they both start at The Olde Duck, which also the home of Sani Spoors.

This event takes place mid-winter. And yes, it can be cold in Underberg this time of the year. The upside is the chance of rain is very slim and the air is clean with stunning views all round. But, we appreciate the fact that it could be cold and the event will therefor start at a more reasonable time. The 140km race starts at 8h30 and the 90km at 9h00. And you have until sunset at 17h30 to finish.

Both races will take you through the stunning Bushmans Neck area before entering the Coleford Nature Reserve. Here you will see black wildebeest, blesbok, and if you are lucky, the very rare Wattle Crane which is also the logo of our event.

The 90km route will stay in the Coleford Nature Reserve before heading back to the finish through Underberg and Sani Spoors.

The 140km route will leave the Coleford Nature Reserve to go through the Pevensey area. From here the views back to the Drakensberg are just amazing. On your way back to the finish you will go through Himeville and Underberg.

A Gran Fondo by definition is a “big ride” and we are not going to be prescriptive about which bike you may use. We can however tell you that a standard road bike or BMX will find the going a bit hard ?

The Underberg Gran Fondo welcome e-bikes as well and we will have prices for the top 3 men and women. The distance allocated for the ebike race will be the 90km event.

Oh, and there is a STUNNING event garment included for all entries received by 30 June 2022.
