La Grande Traversée de l’Ouest is a unique 10 km open-water swimming adventure across one of Mauritius’ most spectacular lagoons. Starting at Le Morne and finishing at La Preneuse, swimmers will pass close to Île aux Bénitiers, cross the Rivière Noire lagoon and experience the west coast from an entirely new perspective.
The event can be completed solo, solo with fins and snorkel, or as a relay team of two or four swimmers.
Participants must be comfortable swimming in deep, open water and must have trained appropriately for their chosen distance. The event will be supported by boats, kayaks, professional sea-rescue personnel and a medical team. Floating refreshment stations will be positioned approximately every 2.5 km.
