Association de Parents d’Enfants Inadaptes de l’Ile Maurice

Founded in 1970, APEIM is a pioneering Mauritian NGO dedicated to the development, empowerment, and inclusion of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The association operates nationwide, offering holistic care through adult workshops, empowerment programs and early intervention services. By fostering autonomy and professional skills, APEIM empowers its beneficiaries to become valuable, active citizens in society.

About this charity

 

Early Intervention: A mobile team, consisting of trained educators supported by the medical and paramedical team, provides comprehensive care for children (0–6 years) across six regions, including rehabilitation and parent training to stimulate and strengthen the development of young children.
Adult Empowerment: Four workshops in Trianon, Port-Louis, Curepipe and Bonne-Mère offer vocational training and adapted employment to help the targeted young adults to develop their capacities in various sectors and improve their social skills using occupational therapy.
Home-Based Care: Provides island-wide dedicated support and medical home care for individuals with multiple disabilities and bedridden patients with severe intellectual disabilities and/or associated disorders, who are unable to travel for their care.
Multidisciplinary Medical Support: On APEIM premises, a professional team offers specialized diagnosis, therapeutic services, and paramedical rehabilitation.

Project Callithea Café: Support the development of our inclusive social enterprise named “Callithea”, where young adults with intellectual disabilities gain employment skills and are placed in a real-life hospitality model in the form of a Café on APEIM premises for training purposes. Also the Callithea Learning Centre at APEIM is designed to provide ongoing training to the outer public and inner staff on intellectual disability.
Educational Infrastructure: Fund the ongoing operation and maintenance of our specialized schools and vocational workshops located on four different spots – Trianon, Curepipe, Port-Louis and Bonne-Mère.
Technical Aids & Materials: Help us purchase specialized tools and paramedical assistive devices that are essential for our beneficiaries' daily development.
Expansion of Training: Contribute to the development of new training modules aligned with the modern job market to strengthen beneficiary autonomy.
