Fondation Espoir Développement Beachcomber (FED) is the social foundation of Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels. Since 1999, it has been supporting vulnerable communities across Mauritius through programmes in education, community development, inclusion and economic empowerment.

About this charity

Youth Employability (PEJ): Provide technical and life-skills training in hospitality trades for vulnerable school dropouts (3,500+ youth benefited, ~50% employed).

Academic Support: Deliver targeted tutoring and academic assistance to Grade 5 and 6 pupils facing learning difficulties in coastal villages.

Literacy Workshops: Foster a culture of reading for children through interactive storytelling and dedicated learning spaces in Curepipe and Case Noyale.

Sports Academies: Offer structured sports training in golf, tennis, basketball, and boxing for children from hotel-adjacent communities.

Local Handicrafts: Support craftworkers from vulnerable communities through skills development and direct access to tourism markets.

Women’s Entrepreneurship: Equip women in precarious situations with business management training, financial literacy, and professional mentoring.

Disability Inclusion: Prepare individuals with disabilities for stable employment in partnership with specialized NGOs (~80 beneficiaries supported).

NGO Collaboration: Strengthen partnerships and co-creation with local NGOs through participatory workshops and quarterly stakeholder meetings.

Social Inclusion (Vulnerable Lives Matter): Sustain key EU co-funded inclusion programs focusing on youth employability, women's business training, and NGO capacity-building.

Educational Scaling: Expand current remedial classes in local schools and open additional Fun Reading Workshops across target communities.

Programme Continuity: Maintain core components of the "Vulnerable Lives Matter" initiative using internal resources following the conclusion of EU co-funding.
