Nearly two years ago, I lost my aunt to breast cancer, and in the past, other close family members to cancer. Even with the best healthcare and the unwavering support of our family, my aunt did go through a lot of physical and mental pain.

It is hard to believe that a lot of women in Mauritius and Rodrigues don't have access to the right treatment because of their financial situation—no one should face death alone.

I am running to honor my aunt’s memory and the memory of every loved one I’ve lost to this disease. But more importantly, I am running the 21km race to support and raise funds for the Breast Cancer Care charity, which is working on an amazing new palliative care programme for disadvantaged women in Mauritius and Rodrigues.

I want to make every step matter, and every rupee count towards a fairer, healthier, happier Mauritius.
